Aug. 28, 2003: Remember this guy? On this day nine years ago, Los Angeles Dodgers super-closer Eric Gagne broke Tom Gordon's record for consecutive saves to start a season, earning his 44th in a row. He went on to go 55 for 55, win the National League Cy Young Award, and eventually appear on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (alongside Cousin Sal, left, and a Dodgers-cap-sporting Shannon Elizabeth). After that? Things didn't go as well.

Patrick Dorsey is a Los Angeles-based writer and editor for ESPN.com. He has worked for the Web and newspapers. He also played in one Division-III golf tournament (he shot 105).
