Sept. 10, 1989: Before he was truly Prime Time, a dual-sport star shining on Super Bowl teams, Deion Sanders was an NFL newbie -- but still a successful one, who played in his first pro football game on this day 23 years ago. And scored in it, on this 68-yard punt return for the Atlanta Falcons ... five days after hitting his second career home run for the New York Yankees.
Patrick Dorsey is a Los Angeles-based writer and editor for ESPN.com. He has worked for the Web and newspapers. He also played in one Division-III golf tournament (he shot 105).
