Sept. 25, 2001: After months of speculation and days of delays in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, Michael Jordan made it official via a press release on this day 11 years ago: He was returning to the NBA, this time as a Washington Wizard.

The first news conference came days later. Then his first appearance, on the opening day of training camp. Then, finally, he stepped onto the court.

And each moment was met with the fanfare you'd expect for His Airness.
