Yearbook, Oct. 21: Carlton Fisk's home run

Oct. 21, 1975: The images are unforgettable, even to those not alive when they first were caught on camera: Carlton Fisk, staring down the left-field line, trying to wave the ball he hit fair so his Boston Red Sox would force a Game 7 in the World Series.

Fisk's efforts worked. Well, the ball hit the foul pole, anyway, meaning Boston won in 12 and got one more shot at beating the Cincinnati Reds and claiming their first World Series title since 1918. The Sox lost that one, but that doesn't change the iconic nature of the moment; heck, it made for one of the most memorable scenes in one of the 1990s' best movies.
