Yearbook, Nov. 20: AC Green's record streak

By Patrick Dorsey

Nov. 20, 1997: On this day 15 years ago, in a game between the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks, the ball was jumped and caught by Dallas guard Michael Finley, who immediately called a timeout.

The reason: Starting forward A.C. Green had just officially played in his 907th consecutive game, breaking the record set in the 1970s and early 1980s by Randy Smith.

The game at Dallas' Reunion Arena was stopped for a celebration, one that included a banner, a presentation from NBA vice president Rod Thorn and then-Mavs owner Ross Perot Jr., and a gift from baseball's "Iron Man," Cal Ripken Jr.

Green ended his career -- which included stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat -- with 1,192 straight games played.
