Agony of Defeat: Unhappy Thanksgiving

By The Agony of Defeat

Losing. It hurts. Even -- especially? -- on Thanksgiving weekend.

That's what a number of teams, pro and college, found out in the past few days, and that is what Playbook and the aptly named Tumblr "The Agony of Defeat" aim to show in this collection of dramatic sports photos from the past week:

Texas fans during the Longhorns' loss to the TCU Horned Frogs
Texas Longhorns fans weren't happy with their 16th-ranked team's performance on Turkey Day -- a 20-13 home loss to the unranked TCU Horned Frogs.

Jim Schwartz during his Detroit Lions' loss to the Houston Texans
A bizarre moment set Jim Schwartz's Detroit Lions on the path to defeat, as his toss of a challenge flag canceled a replay that would have overturned a long Houston Texans touchdown run. So the play stood, and Detroit eventually lost 34-31 in overtime.

Tony Romo during the Dallas Cowboys' Thanksgiving loss to Washington
The struggles of Tony Romo and his Dallas Cowboys continued; the team trailed Washington 28-3 at halftime, and its rally came up short in a 38-31 home loss.

Brandon Moore and Mark Sanchez during the New York Jets' Thanksgiving loss to the New England Patriots
Ending Thanksgiving's NFL night was perhaps the toughest defeat -- a 49-19 thrashing of Brandon Moore, center, Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets ... in which the New England Patriots scored 35 second-quarter points (and 28 in six minutes).

Brady Hoke and the Michigan Wolverines against the Ohio State Buckeyes
Few regular-season defeats are tougher than the one from Michigan-Ohio State, and this time it was felt by Brady Hoke's Wolverines crew 26-21 in Columbus, Ohio.

Lane Kiffin during his USC Trojans' loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Only Lane Kiffin's USC Trojans stood between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the BCS National Championship Game. And USC had a chance to come close late, but a squandered red zone opportunity doomed the Trojans and propped up the golden domers.

John Wall during the Washington Wizards' loss to the Charlotte Bobcats
What's worse than watching injured from the sideline? Watching while your team loses to the Charlotte Bobcats to reach 0-11, as John Wall did on Saturday. (The Washington Wizards since have fallen to 0-12.)

Shabazz Muhammad during his UCLA Bruins' loss to the Cal Poly Mustangs
Highly touted freshman Shabazz Muhammad and his UCLA Bruins led Cal Poly by 18 points on Sunday, but the Mustangs charged back for a 70-68 win to swat the 11th-ranked Bruins from the Top 25.

Aaron Rodgers during the Green Bay Packers' loss to the New York Giants
Aaron Rodgers' Green Bay Packers were unable to avenge their playoff loss to the New York Giants from the previous year, with the quarterback being sacked five times, fumbling and throwing an interception in a 38-10 Sunday night loss.
