Nov. 29, 1972: Electronic table tennis!

It seems so natural now -- there's even a Playbook blog dedicated in part to sports video games -- and it had been around long before. But this day 40 years ago brought about a revolution in all such games, when a little contraption called "Pong" was installed in a tavern in Northern California.

Designed to be simple -- "something so simple that any drunk in any bar could play," creator Nolan Bushnell said later -- it soon became a sensation, first as an arcade game across the nation, then at home on consoles thanks to a deal with Sears.
