Kobe Bryant mask raises $67,100 (gallery)

By Patrick Dorsey

Bryant
Never one to back down from injury, Kobe Bryant simply added this valuable accessory in 2012.
You remember that mask, the one that found its way onto the face of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant in February in March? Per Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com, that piece of headgear -- brought about by a broken nose in the All-Star Game -- fetched $67,100 in an auction for the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation, an organization that is trying to eradicate homelessness in Los Angeles.

What a perfect excuse to take a photographic trip down KobeMask lane...

It all started with a broken nose, thanks to an errant Dwyane Wade elbow in the All-Star Game.

But hey! Maybe the mask would turn the notoriously fiery Bryant into a nicer guy somehow?
 Kobe Bryant
Nope.

"Do I hear five? Five dollars. Looking for ... What's that: $67,000? Yeah, that's better."
Kobe Bryant
Looks like Ray Allen wanted to get his hands on this mask for free.

Now it's gone. And ya know? We kinda miss it. Maybe Kobe should bring back the mask.
