Yearbook, Sept. 19: Jackie Robinson's ROY
By Patrick Dorsey
Sept. 19, 1947: On this day 65 years ago, Jackie Robinson continued his historic campaign, becoming Major League Baseball's first-ever Rookie of the Year just months after breaking through to become its first modern-day black player.
Robinson was rewarded a car and much more for his special 1947 season, which saw the 28-year-old post an .810 OPS, lead the league in stolen bases, and help get the Brooklyn Dodgers to the World Series.
