SAN DIEGO -- Kicker Nick Novak earned AFC Special Teams player of the week honors for his effort in San Diego’s win over Indianapolis on Monday night.
Novak finished 4 for 4 on field goals, including his final attempt from 50 yards out with two minutes remaining to help seal San Diego’s win over the Colts.
Through six games, Novak has made all six field goals from 40 or more yards. Both of Novak’s misses have been blocked.
Novak is the first San Diego player to win the award since kicker Nate Kaeding in Week 17 of the 2009 season.
He joins Philip Rivers, who earned AFC Offensive player of the week honors in Week 2 and Week 4, as the second San Diego player to win a player of the week award.
