Power Rankings: No. 15 San Diego Chargers

11/26/2013

A weekly examination of the Chargers’ ESPN.com Power Ranking:

Preseason ranking: 23 | Last Week: 18 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002

The Chargers jumped three places to No. 15 on the strength of San Diego’s road win at Kansas City. The Chargers return to Qualcomm Stadium for two straight games at home against Cincinnati (7-4) and the New York Giants (4-7).

Both are winnable games. And if the Chargers can get the job done at home, they could head to Denver for a Thursday night game three weeks from now with a 7-6 record and in a good position to earn that final AFC wild-card spot.

The Chargers are looking to build on the momentum created by last week’s surprising win over the Chiefs. San Diego played with an energy and passion that did not exist during the team’s three-game losing streak. And it will be up to coach Mike McCoy to make sure his team shows up with that type of effort again on Sunday.

“We have made some mistakes at critical times in the game,” McCoy said. “But I think with the energy and the passion everyone played with, that’s the way it has to be every Sunday.”
