Bolts promote Sirianni to coach QBs

2/4/2014

SAN DIEGO – Chargers coach Mike McCoy made a few changes to his coaching staff, the team announced on Monday.

McCoy promoted Nick Sirianni to serve as San Diego’s quarterbacks coach, replacing Frank Reich, who was promoted to offensive coordinator.

McCoy also hired Bobby King as assistant linebackers coach and Shane Steichen as a quality control coach on offense.

Sirianni, 32, was promoted to coach the quarterbacks, after serving as a quality control assistant on offense in 2013. Sirianni joined San Diego’s staff after working four years in Kansas City, including three as a quality control coach and the 2012 season as the team’s wide receivers coach.

King, 35, joins the Chargers from the Houston Texans, where he also served as assistant linebackers coach. King replaces Byron Storer, who resigned to pursue opportunities outside of football.

Steichen, 28, returns to the Chargers after spending the previous season with the Cleveland Browns as offensive quality control coach. Steichen served as a defensive assistant from 2011-2012 during his first stint in San Diego.
