SAN DIEGO -- The pick: Chris Watt, OG, Notre Dame
My take: With center Nick Hardwick (32) and right guard Jeromey Clary (30) getting older, the San Diego Chargers add some depth up front with the selection of Watt in the third round with the team's No. 89 pick. Watt started 27 of 50 games for the Fighting Irish, including a string of 24 starts. At 6-3 and 310 pounds, Watt was a three-year starter, with all starts coming at left guard. The Chargers could need more depth up front offensively, after using six different starting offensive line combinations last season.
Another Golden Domer: For the second year in a row, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco selects a player from Notre Dame in the draft. In 2013, San Diego grabbed middle linebacker Manti Te'o. And this year, Telesco goes back to Notre Dame and picks up an interior offensive lineman in Watt.
What’s next: The Chargers are done making selections on Day 2. Because San Diego traded up in the second round to select Jeremiah Attaochu, giving up the No. 57 and No. 125 picks to move up to No. 50, the Chargers do not have a pick in the fourth round. So the first pick for the Chargers in Day 3 will be at No. 165.
