Could London come calling for 49ers again?

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers are headed to London later this month and will play there for the second time in three years.

It is not out of the question for the 49ers to return next season. The NFL announced there will be three games played in London in the 2014 regular season. The Raiders and Falcons are two of the teams that will host games. The Raiders host the 49ers next season and the 49ers could play at Atlanta. The 49ers will play at an NFC South team based on finish.

I could see where the NFL could be tempted to play the 49ers-Raiders game overseas. Their preseason series was scuttled a couple of years ago because of major game-day fan violence. Keeping the 2014 game out of the Bay Area, which albeit would be sad, would mean less potential problems.

The 49ers are the visitors when they play Jacksonville at London on Oct. 27. The 49ers were the hosts when they beat Denver in London three years ago. Perhaps another trip could be on the horizon.
