On the surface, it appears Aaron Rodgers may be in for a tough day Sunday in San Francisco.
With left tackle Bryan Bulaga out for the year and Derek Sherrod on the PUP list, the Packers are planning to play fourth-round draft pick David Bakhtiari at left tackle and second-year player Don Barclay at right tackle.
The Green Bay offensive line was a problem last season. Rodgers was sacked a league-worst 51 times last season and the 49ers can bring the heat.
According to ESPN Stats & information, San Francisco had 36 sacks while bringing a pass rush of four or fewer players. That’s considered a non-blitzing situation. It was the second-highest mark in the NFL.
Thus, the Packers’ inexperienced tackles may see pressure they never imagined.
Still, even though he was brought down the most in the league, Rodgers thrives while being chased. Rodgers had an NFL-high Total QBR rating of 75.2 while under duress last season. Looking at all the circumstances and past history, he may have to use some of the magic again Sunday.
