49ers' mentality: How are Jaguars 0-7?

LONDON -- San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Colin Kaepernick pumped up the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday despite the fact that the 49ers' Sunday opponent is 0-7.

The 49ers continued to talk Thursday about the Jaguars like they are an outfit full of Pro Bowlers rather than a team that has lost eight straight games by 10 points or more. Jacksonville has been outscored by 146 points this season. It's tied for the second-worst point differential through seven games since the 1970 league merger, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

After watching film of the Jaguars, 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis said he asked, "How are they 0-7?" San Francisco offensive coordinator Greg Roman called Jacksonville a "very dangerous team."

San Francisco defensive lineman Justin Smith said the Jaguars will be dangerous because they are playing for their futures.

I think the 49ers are talking up the Jaguars to convince themselves. They can't to afford get caught off guard.

Smith said he doesn't think the 5-2 49ers will suffer a letdown because they are focused on keeping pace with 6-1 Seattle. If that means being worried to death over a winless team, so be it.
