SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- It's not your imagination.
San Francisco 49ers receiver Anquan Boldin has been a machine on third down. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Boldin leads all NFL wide receivers by catching 79.4 percent of his third-down targets this season.
Boldin has first downs on 81.5 of his third-down catches. The rest of the team has converted 31.3 percent of third-down catches for first downs.
Boldin’s yards-per-attempt average on third-down catches is 11.8 yards. Expect this trend to continue with Michael Crabtree back. As Crabtree continues to regain his health, he will be the 49ers’ top option but expect Boldin to remain the go-to guy when it times to moving the chains.
