SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- It's been an emotional week for Colt McCoy.

He loves Mack Brown. He also loves the University of Texas.

“It's been tough, because of what Coach Brown means to me and to Texas,” said McCoy, the 49ers' backup quarterback. “He has meant so much to me. I experienced so many things because of that. We are close to this day and we will still stay close.”

McCoy, whose younger brother Case is finishing his season as the Longhorns' quarterback, has spoken to Brown since he retired and he will remain in contact, he said. While McCoy fully supports his former head coach, he said he supports the Texas program as it moves forward.

He said he is keeping close tabs on who the school may hire. He said he didn't think the school is too far in its search.

“It's an opportunity for Texas and I think coach Brown would say the same thing,” McCoy said.

Is McCoy currently playing for the Longhorns' next coach? Umm, very likely no. As widely reported for a week, Jim Harbaugh said Thursday it is his desire to remain with the 49ers.
