Week stay out East seems unlikely

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- It doesn't appear the San Francisco 49ers are preparing to stay out East next week in case they have to play at Carolina on Jan. 12.

Monday, coach Jim Harbaugh said the team had given some thought to the idea of practicing East – they spent a week in Youngstown, Ohio, during the 2011 and 2012 season -- if need be. The 49ers play at Green Bay on Sunday. If the 49ers win and New Orleans wins at Philadelphia on Saturday, the 49ers would head to Carolina. If the 49ers and Eagles win, the 49ers will play at Seattle on Jan. 11.

The 49ers leave for Green Bay early Friday afternoon and there has not been any preparation for a week stay, so that idea seems very unlikely.

In other 49ers notes: Offensive coordinator Greg Roman said the Packers feel like a division opponent because the two teams play each other so often.

Roman said before Thursday's practice that he thought Wednesday's practice was the team's best of the season.

Roman's thoughts on why quarterback Colin Kaepernick's two best NFL games have come against the Packers? “Happenstance.” Did you really think he'd answer that one?
