The last time we saw the San Francisco 49ers they were darting across the country at a rapid rate.
A season after the 49ers racked up more miles than any other team in the NFL, the 49ers will start the 2014 season with an unusual amount of travel.
The most noteworthy part of the 49ers’ preseason schedule is the long trips. The 49ers play at Baltimore in Week 1 and at Houston in Week 4. The San Francisco Chronicle reported the game at Baltimore is the 49ers’ first preseason game on the East Coast in 18 years. Usually, preseason games are much shorter flights, particularly in the final week of the season.
The 49ers traveled more than 32,000 miles in the regular season, the most in the NFL in 2013. Then, they played consecutive games at Green Bay, Carolina and Seattle in the postseason. Five of the 49ers’ final six games were on the road.
Come August, the 49ers will be back to piling up the air miles.
