Quinton Patton making progress

By Bill Williamson

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Not only is San Francisco 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree coming back this season, but it appears so is rookie receiver Quinton Patton.

He has been out since breaking a foot in Week 4 at the St. Louis Rams. 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Patton has recently had his boot taken off. Patton is not expected to go on the injured reserve.

"I anticipate he'll be playing again," Harbaugh said of the promising rookie. "I think ahead of schedule for Quinton."

Harbaugh said Patton is expected to be the only non-healthy scratch for the 49ers in Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks was limited Wednesday with a stinger. Defensive linemen Justin Smith (shoulder) and Ray McDonald (biceps) were listed limited. Smith and McDonald have usually been sitting out Wednesday practices.
