Anquan Boldin shines when it counts

By Bill Williamson

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- It was no surprise when receiver Anquan Boldin took over in the San Francisco 49ers' win at the Carolina Panthers in the divisional playoffs Sunday.

Boldin is a star in the postseason. The 33-year-old receiver, who is trying to reach the Super Bowl with his third team in the past six seasons, had eight catches for 136 yards against the Panthers,

According to ESPN Stats & Information, since he entered the NFL in 2003, Boldin has ranked among the best receivers in the postseason. His four 100-yard receiving yards games are tied for first in the league during that span. His 980 receiving yards and 45 first downs are second most and his seven touchdowns fourth most.

Boldin, who was traded from the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens to the 49ers for a sixth-round pick in the offseason, is ready to do whatever it takes to keep his postseason success going.

“Just realizing the situation,” said Boldin of his playoff approach. “I think for some guys they don't pay attention to the small things, and that's one of the things that can kill you in the playoffs. You really have to go back to basics and play fundamentally sound football and take care of the small things.”

It’s clearly been an effective plan.
