San Francisco 49ers: Heath Miller
The 49ers are well aware of the potential pratfalls of the pick. In 2012, they had the No. 30 pick and took receiver A.J. Jenkins. He didn’t make a catch as a rookie and was traded to Kansas City in his second training camp.
However, recent history shows teams can have success with the pick.
The players that sandwiched Jenkins, Alec Ogletree (St. Louis in 2013) and Muhammad Wilkerson (Jets in 2011) have played well. Also, since 2000, there have been some outstanding players taken there, including linebacker Keith Bullock (2000), receiver Reggie Wayne (2001) and tight ends Heath Miller (2005) and Dustin Keller (2007).
So, the 49ers need to focus on the big picture of the 30th overall pick and not their bad experience with it.
