RENTON, Wash. -- If history is your guide, one of these teams playing Monday night will win the Super Bowl this season.
The New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks enter this game with a combined win percentage of .864, which according to the Elias Sports Bureau, is the second-highest combined win percentage in a post-Thanksgiving Monday night game in the history of the TV series.
Of the three previous games in which the combined win percentage of teams was .850 or better, the eventual Super Bowl champion participated in each of them.
A few other interesting tidbits entering this game:
• How important is it to be the No. 1 seed in the playoffs?
Since the postseason was expanded to 12 teams in 1990, 46 percent of 1-seeds have reached the Super Bowl compared to 28 percent of 2-seeds.
That gives you some idea why this game is so important. Seattle is the No. 1 seed going in at 10-1. The Saints are No. 2 at 9-2.
• The Seahawks come in with a franchise record 13-game home winning streak, which includes a points per game margin of 17.9 and a turnover margin of +20.
Russell Wilson, of course, is undefeated at CenturyLink Field. Wilson has 26 touchdowns passes and six interceptions at home, compared to 19 TD throws and 10 interceptions on the road. His 72.9 quarterback rating at home is third in the NFL over the past two seasons.
Here’s the TD passes list for the first two seasons:
Dan Marino -- 68
Peyton Manning -- 52
Andy Dalton -- 47
Russell Wilson -- 45
Jeff Garcia -- 42
• Speaking of Wilson, ESPN’s Chris Connelly has a feature of "Sunday NFL Countdown" this weekend about the unique bonding between Wilson and an 11-year-old heart transplant patient, named Allison.
After their first meeting each other during one of Wilson's weekly visits to a Seattle Children’s Hospital, Allison gave Wilson a Seahawks-themed wallet she made with duct tape.
