Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman will be honored Friday night at the Celebration of Hearing event, which benefits five Seattle-based organizations working to help people with hearing loss.

A rare genetic anomaly caused Coleman to lose all the hearing in his left ear and most of the hearing in his right ear by the time he was 3 years old. Coleman became nationally known before Super Bowl XLVIII from a Duracell battery commercial that told his story and inspired others.

Coleman also invited 9-year-old twin sisters Riley and Erin Kovalcik, both of whom are hearing impaired, to the Super Bowl after they wrote him a letter of support.

Friday’s event honoring Coleman takes place at the ROOT Sports Lounge on the Suite Level at CenturyLink Field from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. PT.
