RENTON, Wash. -- Rookie wide receiver Kevin Norwood is the biggest concern among the players not practicing for the Seahawks. He remains on the sidelines with a foot injury.

"We are waiting for some more information on him," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Norwood. "We are going to take our time with him. He's not going to come back right away."

Norwood is a fourth-round draft choice for Alabama. He is impressive almost every time he gets on the field because of his catching ability in traffic and his toughness. But the foot problem from a previous college injury has sidelined him the last two weeks.

Monday was a small step forward for a few starting players who saw limited action for the first time in training camp.

Offensive tackle Russell Okung and strong safety Kam Chancellor (both of whom had offseason surgery) were in pads and participated in position workouts. Neither man took snaps in team drills, but both players are progressing in the plan the team has for them at camp.

Running back Marshawn Lynch, who ended his eight-day holdout last week, also took part of a few drills for the first time.

"We're going to take our time with him and make sure we do it right," coach Pete Carroll said. "We've always been very patient with him. He missed a lot of the offseason with us. He has a heavy workout regimen on his own and he's in great shape, but it's still football shape we have to get him in. It takes some time."

Rookie receiver Paul Richardson practiced Monday in a red jersey, meaning no one was allowed to hit him. Richardson has a bruised shoulder.

Rookie safety Dion Bailey was out after spraining his left ankle in Saturday's scrimmage. Carroll called it a significant sprain.

Some good news for the team was rookie right tackle Justin Britt going full speed Monday after bruising his shoulder Saturday early in the scrimmage and leaving the field.

Wide receiver Phil Bates left the practice field early Monday, but he's not injured.

"He just wasn't feeling well today," Carroll said. "He's a little under the weather."

Left guard James Carpenter [calf] and middle linebacker Bobby Wagner [hamstring] still are out, but Carroll had a good report on Carpenter.

"Wags will take a little bit longer, but we may get Carp back [Tuesday]," Carroll said.

Linebacker Malcolm Smith, who had offseason ankle surgery, still is out. Defensive backs Akeem Auguste and DeShawn Shead did not practice Monday.

Rookie defensive end Cassius Marsh returned to practice after being out last week with a groin injury.
