Seahawks' No. 3 all-time player
By Terry Blount
The countdown continues on my list of the top 10 Seahawks in franchise history. Current players on the Super Bowl winning team were not eligible. One other requirement is the man had to play at least five seasons for the Seahawks.
Accomplishments: Elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012 ... NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1992 … All Rookie Team in 1990 … Voted to six consecutive Pro Bowls and eight overall ... Added to the Seahawks Ring of Honor in 2006 ... Voted the 1990s NFL All-Decade Team.
Kennedy was known for his durability. He did not miss a single game until his eighth season. He is widely regarded as one of the best defensive tackles in NFL history.
The Seahawks were 2-14 in 1992 when Kennedy was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, which was only the third time a player from a losing team had won the award. He has 93 tackles that year and forced five fumbles. His 14 sacks that season were most for an interior lineman. He also led the team in sacks in 1995.
The sad thing for Kennedy is the fact that he played on so many unsuccessful teams. The Seahawks made the playoffs only once (1999) in Kennedy’s 11 seasons.
I bet most of you can guess who the top two are on the countdown, but which player is No. 1 and which is No. 2 is an endless debate.
