SEC: Best running back class

The season is only eight days away and official and unofficial visits will start to take place and recruiting will really start to heat up. Several teams are doing well in recruiting while others still have a ways to go. Here’s a position-by-position look at which SEC teams, currently, have the best commits for each position group (offensive and defensive line are not broken down in to position.)

Running back: Ole Miss

While Alabama has the highest-rated running back commit (B.J. Emmons) of any SEC school, Ole Miss is the only SEC team with two ESPN 300 running back commits, Denzel Mitchell (No. 276) and Justin Connor (No. 292), and the Rebels also have another four-star running back commitment with D’Vaughn Pennamon.

While stats were not available for Mitchell, Connor has rushed for 1,894 yards and 12 touchdowns heading in to his senior season, while Pennamon has rushed for 981 yards and nine touchdowns in his first two seasons.

Connor is the only prospect of the talented trio from the state of Mississippi. Mitchell and Pennamon, meanwhile, are from Alabama and Texas, respectively. All three backs appear to be solid with their commitments to Ole Miss.

The three top backs combined with quarterback commit Shea Patterson, could make for a very dangerous backfield in Hugh Freeze’s up-tempo spread offense.

Ole Miss currently has the sixth-ranked recruiting class in the country and big-time offensive weapons like Mitchell, Connor and Pennamon are a big reason why.

Honorable mention: Alabama (Emmons), Tennessee (Carlin Fils-Aime), South Carolina (Korey Charles) and Florida (Mark Thompson and LaMichael Perine).
