If Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin works out the deal to add Mitch Browning to his staff as a graduate assistant, the Vols will have six assistants on their staff who've been recruiting coordinators at some point.

And that doesn't even count Kiffin, who was the recruiting coordinator at Southern California in 2005 and 2006.

Browning, the offensive coordinator last season at Syracuse, found himself out of a job after Greg Robinson was fired. However, Browning signed a multiyear deal with Syracuse, meaning the Orange would end up paying his salary this next season. Browning was with Glen Mason at Minnesota for 10 years before landing at Syracuse and served stints as the Golden Gophers' offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator.

Others on the Vols' staff who've been recruiting coordinators on previous staffs include Ed Orgeron (Southern California), Jim Chaney (Purdue, Wyoming and Cal State Fullerton), Frank Wilson (Mississippi State and Southern Miss), Lance Thompson (LSU and Georgia Tech) and David Reaves (South Carolina).

Of the nine position coaches on Tennessee's staff, eight have been a coordinator of some kind. Eddie Gran was the special-teams coordinator at Auburn. Willie Mack Garza was the defensive coordinator at North Dakota State, and Monte Kiffin was the longtime defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
