It’s exactly the way Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen drew it up.

Well, maybe not exactly. He didn’t envision Chris Relf throwing an interception on his first pass attempt Saturday night.

But Relf came right back on the Bulldogs’ next possession and threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Leon Berry. Then it was redshirt freshman Tyler Russell’s turn.

In his first action as a collegian, Russell was 3-for-3, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Heavens to give Mississippi State a 14-0 lead against Memphis.

That’s the way a two-quarterback system is supposed to work.
