While saying he didn’t think Julio Jones' knee injury was a long-term situation, Alabama coach Nick Saban said that Wednesday’s practice would go a long way toward clarifying what Jones’ status for Saturday’s game at South Carolina would be.

Jones bruised his knee last week in the 31-6 win against Florida. He underwent an MRI, but it didn’t reveal any damage.

“He’s going to practice some (Wednesday) and has done a little bit of work throughout the week, a little bit more each day,” Saban said. “I think (Wednesday) and how he feels and manages the workload (will be important). He hasn’t had any setbacks, but these things are a little bit unpredictable in how fast you can come back and heal. He’s always been a pretty quick healer.

“(Wednesday) will give us a real good feel for where he is and how he’ll be able to progress. It’s not a long-term injury. So we’ll have to find out today how he can do.”

Jones also had a bruised right knee last season that forced him to miss a game. He said it plagued him for most of the first part of the season.
