Most of you have figured out by now who the top four players are in my SEC countdown.

But who ranks where?

After two straight offensive players, we go defense again at No. 4. And when you start weighing the impact on teammates factor, this next guy is off the charts.

In many ways, he's the engine that drives the Florida defense.

No. 4: Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida -- Talk to Florida coach Urban Meyer, defensive coordinator Charlie Strong or any of the Gators' defenders, and they will all tell you the same thing: The Gators go on defense as Spikes goes. No player in the league sets the tone for his team defensively the way Spikes does. The 6-3, 258-pound middle linebacker led the Gators with 93 total tackles last season, including eight for loss. He also intercepted four passes, two of which he returned for touchdowns. A consensus first-team All-America selection in 2008, Spikes is a fierce tackler who's never too far away from the football. He can rush the passer coming up the middle and is also effective coming off the edge. One of the more intimidating players in the league, Spikes has that infectious quality about him that all the great ones possess. Remember his planting of Knowshon Moreno in the first series of the Florida-Georgia game last season? The Gators were off to the races, and the Bulldogs were toast.
