New Florida coach Will Muschamp said he wanted to run more of a pro-style offense next season.
It makes sense then that he would be trying to lock up former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis as his offensive coordinator. Weis has done an excellent job with the Kansas City Chiefs' offense this season and obviously has a long history in the NFL from his time in New England as the Patriots' offensive coordinator. He won three Super Bowls with the Patriots.
Weis, who walked away from Notre Dame with a huge buyout after he was forced out, is viewed as one of the better playcallers in the game. Getting an offensive mind of his stature would be a real coup for Muschamp and would obviously do nothing but help the Gators attract top talent wanting to play in Weis' offense.
Weis coached under Bill Belichick with the Patriots, and Belichick and outgoing Florida coach Urban Meyer have a close relationship.
