Taking a look at what's making headlines in the SEC:

  • Michael Smith won't have to do it alone this season in the Arkansas backfield. He's healthy again and so is freshman Knile Davis, who's coming off surgery after breaking his ankle in the spring.
  • Ole Miss star Dexter McCluster feels fortunate to have survived last weekend's fiery crash without any serious injuries. Defensive end Greg Hardy aggravated a foot injury in the crash and will be re-evaluated by the specialist who performed his surgery in the offseason. Hardy's status for the start of preseason practice is uncertain at this point.
  • Auburn lands a commitment from a junior college defensive end, Joel Bonomolo, who hopes to graduate early and be on campus in time for spring practice in 2010.
