Headed for the Plains

I'm headed to Auburn to check in on the Tigers' preseason camp Thursday.

In addition to catching up with coach Gene Chizik and a few of the players, I hope to grab a lemonade at Toomer's Corner, wish I could play a round of golf at one of the Robert Trent Jones courses at Grand National and will be on the lookout for any limos.

OK, that's just during recruiting season.

I think one of the most surprising stories of the preseason so far in the SEC has been Chris Todd winning the Auburn starting quarterback job. Not many people gave him much of a chance, especially with his history of shoulder problems.

But give Todd credit for sticking in there and believing that he still has a lot of good football in him.

Here's hoping for a healthy senior season for the well-traveled senior from Elizabethtown, Ky.
