When you win a national championship, the money starts flowing.

Just ask Auburn's football coaches.

The university released the details of head coach Gene Chizik's new deal on Monday as well as the contracts and raises for Auburn's assistants, who will make a combined total of $4.085 million next season. That's more than any other group of assistants in college football, according to research by USA Today.

Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn will earn $1.3 million next season, making him the highest paid assistant coach in college football. Malzahn turned down a lucrative opportunity to be Vanderbilt's head coach following this past season.

All nine Auburn assistants will make more than $250,000, and four of them will make $400,000 or more. Trooper Taylor, the Tigers' assistant head coach/receivers coach, is one of those in the $400,000 club at $425,000 per year. He'll also earn an additional $50,000 if he's still with Auburn the Monday following national signing day.

Here's the breakdown for all nine assistants:
  • Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn: $1.3 million
  • Defensive coordinator Ted Roof: $500,000
  • Receivers coach/assistant head coach Trooper Taylor: $425,000
  • Offensive line coach Jeff Grimes: $400,000
  • Running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Curtis Luper: $330,000
  • Safeties coach Tommy Thigpen: $320,000
  • Defensive line coach Mike Pelton: $300,000
  • Cornerbacks coach Phillip Lolley: $255,000
  • Special teams/tight ends coach Jay Boulware: $255,000
Chizik, who will now earn $3.5 million per year, has a $10 million buyout in his new deal if the university were to fire him without cause following the upcoming season. That buyout goes down each year. It would be $7.5 million after 2012, $5 million after 2013, $3.5 million after 2014, and there is no buyout after 2015.

If Chizik were to leave for another job prior to Dec. 31, 2014, he would owe Auburn $3.5 million.
