The two loud cheers you heard a few minutes ago were coming from Athens, Ga., and Knoxville, Tenn.

Next week's Georgia-Tennessee game just got a lot more important with South Carolina losing 16-13 at home to Auburn.

The Bulldogs beat Mississippi State 24-10 earlier in the day, and the Vols routed Buffalo 41-10.

Georgia and Tennessee meet next Saturday in Neyland Stadium, and the winner will be alive and well in the Eastern Division race.

The Bulldogs, in particular, would take a big step, especially when you consider that they don't have to play Alabama or LSU.

The Vols, even with star receiver Justin Hunter sidelined for the remainder of the season, are going to be a tough matchup for a lot of defenses. Sophomore quarterback Tyler Bray threw four more touchdown passes in the win against Buffalo and now has 14 touchdown passes in four games this season.

Of course, the lingering question about the Vols is whether or not they can run the ball well enough to keep a good defense honest.
