ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia senior quarterback Joe Cox confirmed to ESPN's Joe Schad on Friday that he's been battling shoulder problems, but is determined to play through the injury.

Cox said the injury is nerve-related, thus putting pressure on his rotator cuff. Georgia coach Mark Richt maintained again Friday that Cox would start Saturday night against South Carolina. Sophomore Logan Gray also worked a good bit with the first team this week.

The Gamecocks prepared all week like they were going to see both quarterbacks. Gray is a better runner than Cox and actually returned some punts last season.

Cox didn't throw the ball well in the opener against Oklahoma State, but said the injury hasn't affected his arm strength. His biggest problem in the opener was the flu, which caused him to lose nine pounds. He said he's completely over his illness now.
