There was nothing spectacular about South Carolina's performance Saturday, although sophomore quarterback Connor Shaw did account for four touchdowns.

Nonetheless, the No. 12 Gamecocks did make a little history with their 41-20 win over The Citadel. It was their ninth win of the season, marking the first time in school history that the Gamecocks have won nine or more games in back-to-back seasons. They finished 9-5 a year ago.

Shaw finished 16-of-18 for 217 yards and threw touchdown passes of 32 yards to Alshon Jeffery, 25 yards to Ace Sanders and 20 yards to Rory Anderson. Shaw also had a 60-yard touchdown run.

The Gamecocks (9-2, 6-2) won't be going back to the SEC championship game for a second straight season unless Kentucky comes back and beats Georgia in the fourth quarter, but the Gamecocks can set themselves up for a nice bowl trip (possibly the Capital One Bowl or Cotton Bowl) if they can beat arch-rival Clemson at home next week.
