The prelims are over for Ole Miss, which routed Southeastern Louisiana 52-6 on Saturday night and gets its first real test of the season Thursday night on the road against South Carolina.

We don't know a lot about the Rebels at this point because they haven't played anyone. But the most encouraging thing about this latest rout was the performance of a couple of freshmen. Linebacker D.T. Shackelford recovered two fumbles and returned an interception 58 yards for a touchdown, and receiver Pat Patterson led the team in receiving with four catches for 79 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown catch.
