A little bit of this and a little bit of that as we point toward Saturday’s action in the SEC:
  • The SEC has three of the top four teams in this week’s Associated Press poll. It’s the first time a conference has done that since the Big Eight had the top three teams in the final poll of 1971 -- Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado. Of course, that will change next week with No. 4 Ole Miss’ 16-10 loss to South Carolina on Thursday night.
  • South Carolina senior outside linebacker Eric Norwood had two more sacks in Thursday’s game and now has six for the season, tying him for the second most nationally. He broke the school record against the Rebels and now has 28 career sacks. He joked that his goal now was to “go out and demolish (the record) and put it out of reach for guys like Cliff Matthews and Devin Taylor.”
  • In just two games, Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has 11 pass completions of 30 yards or more, which leads the country. Arkansas will face an Alabama defense this weekend that has given up only four pass plays of 30 yards or more in three games.
  • Florida has won 22 consecutive games against Kentucky and 28 of the last 29. The Gators have scored at least 20 points in each of the last 22 meetings. The 22 straight wins for Florida over Kentucky is the second-longest current win streak for one opponent over another in an uninterrupted series. Tennessee has won 24 straight over Kentucky.
  • Florida quarterback Tim Tebow has 46 career rushing touchdowns, tying him for second all-time in the SEC with LSU’s Kevin Faulk. Georgia’s Herschel Walker is the SEC record-holder with 49 career rushing touchdowns.
  • Alabama sophomore receiver Julio Jones has gone 11 straight games without a touchdown. He didn’t play last week against North Texas with a bruised knee, but practiced this week and is expected to play Saturday against Arkansas.
  • Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has won his last 19 starts as a quarterback, going 16-0 as a high school senior in 2005 and 3-0 as a starter this season.
  • This will be Arizona State’s first time playing an SEC team on the road. The Sun Devils are 0-2 against the SEC all-time, losing at home to LSU in 2005 and Georgia at home last season. The 2005 LSU game was supposed to be a road game, but was moved to Tempe because of Hurricane Katrina.
  • Georgia is a perfect 9-for-9 in the red zone this season. However, only four of those nine possessions have resulted in touchdowns. The Bulldogs are one of 16 schools that has scored every time in the red zone.
  • Including last Saturday’s 31-27 win over Louisville, over the last three years, Kentucky has posted come-from-behind fourth-quarter victories in 10 of the last 34 games. To put that accomplishment in perspective, prior to the last 34 games, you have to go back 13 years, a total of 146 games, to find 10 more Kentucky come-from-behind victories in the fourth quarter.
  • The Vanderbilt defense has allowed just three total touchdowns -- and none through the air -- in its first three outings. The 38-point opponent total is the fewest points allowed by Vanderbilt in a three-game span during the Bobby Johnson era.
