At one point, it was thought to be a Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech battle for defensive tackle Korren Kirven of Lynchburg, Va.

Alabama had been involved all along, but when the Crimson Tide made a hard push at the end, Kirven couldn't say no to the reigning national champions.

The 6-3, 270-pound Kirven signed with Alabama on Wednesday morning and made the announcement at his high school. He's rated as the No. 8 defensive tackle prospect in the country by ESPN.

If everyone sticks that's committed to Alabama in this class, Kirven would be the 13th ESPNU 150 player to sign with the Crimson Tide, who had the No. 1-rated class nationally coming into signing day.
