A little bit of this and a little bit of that as we gear up for what should be an intriguing Saturday in the SEC:
  • Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has not thrown an interception in 81 straight pass attempts, dating back to the second quarter against Virginia Tech. McElroy completed 10 straight passes against Arkansas and 14 straight against Florida International.
  • In his last 14 quarters, which includes the second half of the Virginia Tech game, McElroy is 57-of-75 (76 percent) for 844 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions.
  • Auburn has scored 181 points this season, which is the most in the first four games of any season in school history. It’s also just 27 points fewer than Auburn scored all of last season.
  • During his career, Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton has started in eight games against teams from BCS conferences. He’s 2-6 in those eight games, completing 50.5 percent of his passes for an average of 109.9 yards with three touchdowns and nine interceptions.
  • In his nine-year head coaching career at Oklahoma State and LSU, Les Miles has faced 46 different opponents … and beaten 44 of them. The only two teams he has failed to beat are Georgia (0-2) and Texas (0-4).
  • LSU sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson is completing 61.4 percent of his passes this season and has only thrown one interception. But down the field, he hasn’t been nearly as accurate. He’s only 5-of-16 when throwing the ball more than 20 yards.
  • Under Mark Richt, Georgia is 20-5 against Western Division teams, including 9-1 over the last four seasons. The only loss during that stretch was last season at home to Alabama.
  • Georgia has lost three straight and seven of its last eight home games against teams ranked in the Top 5 of the Associated Press poll. The Bulldogs’ last such win was Sept. 22, 1984 against No. 2-ranked Clemson, 26-23.
  • Dating back to last season, Ole Miss is holding opponents to an average of 11.9 points over the last seven games. During that span, the Ole Miss defense has posted two shutouts. This season, the Rebels’ defense has surrendered just one passing touchdown, while intercepting four passes.
  • Vanderbilt has won two straight and three of its last four games against Ole Miss. The Commodores haven’t won three straight against Ole Miss since a three-game winning streak between 1949 and 1951.
  • With a win Saturday, Vanderbilt would have a winning record after five games for the third straight season. That hasn’t happened since a four-year streak from 1972-75.
  • Mississippi State senior running back Anthony Dixon has not lost a fumble since the regular-season finale of the 2007 season, a stretch of 16 games. Since that last fumble, he has rushed 291 times and caught 28 passes, a total of 319 touches.
  • Despite playing 31 seasons in the SEC from 1933-1963, Georgia Tech will be playing a game in the state of Mississippi for the first time in its 117 seasons of football. Mississippi State was a member of the SEC all 31 seasons Georgia Tech was in the conference, yet the teams never met during that time frame. Georgia Tech played only one SEC game against Ole Miss and has faced the Rebels twice in a bowl game.
  • South Carolina senior outside linebacker Eric Norwood set the school record for career sacks with his 27th and 28th against Ole Miss last week. He is now tied for eighth in SEC history in that category with Georgia’s Jimmy Payne and Tennessee’s Leonard Little. Norwood needs to get to 33 sacks to tie Florida’s Alex Brown and move into the Top 5 all-time in the SEC. He also has 49.5 career tackles for loss and is one away from entering the league’s Top 10 in that category.
