Monday chat wrap

Here's the chat wrap from earlier today. Another good chat. Lots of passion from a few fan bases. I love it!

Here's a sneak peak if you missed it:

Patrick (Raleigh, NC)

Edschoff!I keep hearing that Missouri is gonna pull a surprise upset on my Dawgs, and I can see where that talk is coming from but do you really see that happening?! I have a tough time imagining that but the more I hear people talking, the more I get paranoid! What's your take? What record will my Dawgs finish with this year?

Edward Aschoff (12:04 PM)

Hey, it's the SEC, so no one is EVER safe. I think there are a couple of things working in Missouri's favor. One would be the fact that this is the first SEC home game for the Tigers. That crowd should be more than just electric. Also, Georgia is a bit shorthanded at cornerback and that Sanders Commings is out, so Missouri's passing game has the chance to show off. But you have to realize that Georgia's defensive speed is different than what the Tigers are used to and this is a pretty good UGA team. The Bulldogs are playing for more than just an SEC title this season. Losing early in the SEC isn't what UGA wants or needs this year. I think The Bulldogs will be very prepared for the new Tigers on the block. As for the season, double-digit wins is expected from the Bulldogs.

Justin D (Atl)

It's a known fact that most teams ride their D all the way to championships and even through them. So why is it that UF returns 10/11 starters from a D that was 8th nationally but still gets no love for even a possibility of winning their division? (While i do understand that they've had their offensive woes, this is with the implied assumption their offense will at least be slighty better lol)

Edward Aschoff (12:05 PM)

Have you seen the offense the last two years? Who is the QB? Is the offensive line going to make it? Who will step up at wide receiver? Who will step up at running back?

Jacob (Charlotte)

Glad to have the chat back Ed. According to USC's president, it looks like the Gamecocks will be dropping Arkansas as our yearly Western opponent for the Aggies. What do you think about this change? I'm really liking the switch (not only because the Hogs have had our number the past few years), but the Gamecocks have never played A&M, and it sounds like a good excuse to make a trip over to College Station.

Edward Aschoff (12:07 PM)

If that's true then it would be cool for the Gamecocks to see some new scenery. I'm still not sure how I feel about the future of SEC scheduling. I don't want to see traditional rivalries die out ...

sandy K (Arky)

Dash - Love your blog! If we can get past Bama (I know that's a big if with our recent history), do you think the winner of LSU-Arkansas is a mortal lock for the National Championship?

Edward Aschoff (12:08 PM)

If both teams are undefeated going into that game, you have to think that the winner has a pretty good shot. And if there is a four-team playoff, maybe both have a chance. Win the SEC and things are always good.

Blues (Comment Boards)

Dash - everyone keeps talking about Bama making another run this year, but I'm afraid of another 2010 with all the defensive players we are replacing. what lessons did Saban learn in 2010 to help him keep complacency out of the locker room this time around?

Edward Aschoff (12:09 PM)

It's not just Saban, it's the players. I talked to Nico Johnson last week and he said that this defense is ready and expecting to be better than last year's historic defense. Will that happen? It's really hard to say because of all the talent that's gone. But these guys have to have that mindset. Everyone is expecting some sort of dropoff, but this team isn't. That's a good sign. I think Saban will be MUCH harder on this team than before.

Max (Fort Knox, KY)

Edward, whats your top 5 SEC teams right now with spring practice starting?

Edward Aschoff (12:10 PM)

1. Alabama 2. LSU 3. Georgia 4. South Carolina 5. Arkansas

pete (Chattanooga)

Do the arkansas fans understand what they lost off an already mediocre defense, as well as at receiver? Are they even a top 25 team going into next year?

Edward Aschoff (12:11 PM)

I say Arkansas is a top 15 team. Tyler Wilson is still there, Knile Davis is back the, the offensive line will be better and there is a lot of talent at wide receiver. It will all come back to the defense for the Hogs, but the idea is that Paul Haynes will have a much more aggressive defense out there this season. This is still one of the top teams in the SEC, but the defense will determine if it turns the corner in 2012.

Reggie (Dunwoody)

Ed, isn't Florida's 2011 defensive performance a bit overrated? That D got shredded by Bama and LSU. It couldn't stop the run at key times vs S. Carolina and UGA. Name 1 quality opponent/offense that UF and/or their D showed up against.

Edward Aschoff (12:12 PM)

The mental part of that defense wasn't great for sure. Talent-wise, I think Florida's defense can be pretty darn good next year. If the attitudes improve the defense will carry this team. Too much give in the defense last year.
