No mid-week media for Gamecocks' Garcia

Steve Spurrier likes the improvement he’s seen in sophomore quarterback Stephen Garcia this season.

But Spurrier still isn’t ready to let Garcia do any interviews during the week leading up to games. Since the preseason, mid-week interview requests for Garcia have been nixed by the Head Ball Coach.

Garcia has talked to the media only after games.

At first, Spurrier just didn’t think Garcia needed the attention. Now, I almost think it’s become halfway superstitious.

The Gamecocks are winning. Garcia is maturing as a quarterback, and he’s not having to deal with any media during the week. He’s completing 61.2 percent of his passes and has only three interceptions compared to nine touchdown passes.

Spurrier's stance is: Why change it up now?

The media can be tough, and I’m sure neither Spurrier nor Garcia want to see some of the quarterback's off-the-field issues from the past dredged up, which they surely would be.

But as tough as the media can be, something tells me that Rolando McClain, Terrence Cody and Marcell Dareus will be even tougher on Saturday.
