Wow, a couple of huge performances in Week 7 in the SEC, both offensively and defensively.
Lots to choose from, but here are my helmet stickers:
Kentucky coach Rich Brooks: Boy, did he deserve this one. His Kentucky team deserved this one. This is a program that would have faded into oblivion in the past after losing three straight games and having so many key players go down with injuries. But Brooks kept his guys focused and kept them believing, and the Wildcats went to the Plains and took out Auburn 21-14 on Saturday. It’s a win that very much keeps alive the Wildcats’ bowl chances, as they evened their record at 3-3.
Alabama running back Mark Ingram: If you weren’t already looking at him as a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender, you better be now. He lit up South Carolina’s defense for 246 yards rushing – the most ever at Bryant-Denny Stadium – and is absolutely one of the best runners after contact you’re ever going to see. Ingram had more than 100 of his yards after contact in Alabama’s 20-6 win over South Carolina.
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow: The Superman nickname is getting old. How about a new one? Say, Mr. Fourth Quarter? He was at his best again in the fourth quarter Saturday in the 23-20 win over Arkansas, engineering a clutch drive in the final minutes for the game-winning field goal. The third-and-10 pass Tebow threw to Riley Cooper looked a lot like some of those precision throws he made in the SEC Championship Game last season. Tebow just has a way of willing the Gators to wins.
Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon: After starting his senior season with a suspension, Dixon has made up for it ever since. He became Mississippi State’s all-time leading rusher Saturday with 135 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 27-6 win over Middle Tennessee. Dixon passed Jerious Norwood. It was Dixon’s fifth straight 100-yard game and he has 14 in his career, which is also a school record.
Arkansas defensive tackle Malcolm Sheppard: The Hogs’ defense has improved tremendously over the last few weeks, and the rock in the middle has been Sheppard. He was unblockable at times Saturday against Florida and disrupted a lot of what the Gators were trying to do. The entire Arkansas front four played well and kept the Hogs in the game. But as interior defensive linemen go, Sheppard might be the best in the league.
