We’re only a week into the season, but Alabama and LSU would appear to be firmly entrenched in the SEC’s top two spots … for now.
But who’s No. 3?
In other words, which team in the league has the best chance to unseat Alabama or LSU or both?
Nobody in college football was more impressive than the Crimson Tide the opening week of the season. Their 41-14 trampling of No. 8 Michigan sent a clear message that they’re going to be right in the middle of the 2012 national championship race.
Some of LSU’s younger talent was also on display last Saturday in the Tigers’ 41-14 rout of North Texas. They’re determined to get back to the BCS National Championship Game and certainly have the personnel to win it all.
Who’s next in the SEC's pecking order?
Why don’t you tell us by voting in our SportsNation poll.
Tennessee was impressive in its 35-21 victory over NC State. Are the Vols back to being a genuine contender?
Arkansas can score points with anybody in the country, but are the Hogs good enough on defense to make a run?
Neither Florida nor Georgia was very impressive to open the season, but we’ll find out a lot more about those two teams in key road games this weekend. The Bulldogs play at Missouri, while the Gators travel to Texas A&M.
And, finally, South Carolina is the only SEC team with a conference win. The Gamecocks gutted out a 17-13 win at Vanderbilt last Thursday, but may have paid a steep price. Junior quarterback Connor Shaw banged up his right (throwing) shoulder and is still hurting.
So who’s No. 3? It’s your job to tell us.
