Winning season won't be easy for Hogs

The most disappointing thing about Arkansas' 30-17 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday was how sluggish the Hogs were to start the game.

The Rebels were clearly more ready to play and jumped out to a 17-0 lead, a deficit the Hogs were never able to overcome. Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino can't be happy about that.

The other thing Petrino can't be happy about is how his defense was gashed after showing significant improvement the last few weeks. The Hogs gave up 553 yards and were equally bad against the run and pass.

It doesn't matter how well Ryan Mallett throws the ball this season (and he didn't throw it particularly well Saturday), but Arkansas isn't going to beat many SEC teams playing that poorly on defense.

The Hogs (3-4, 1-4) will have to hustle if they're going to have a winning regular season. The home game with South Carolina on Nov. 7 now becomes critical.
