Hogs committed to Smith through 2012

Despite Arkansas' disastrous start to the season, athletic director Jeff Long said Wednesday he's not making any midstream changes.
In other words, the Hogs aren't bailing on interim coach John L. Smith and his staff and are committed to them for the rest of this season.
"Back in April, you know that this is going to be a difficult situation regardless of whether we’re successful or not successful," said Long, who was speaking at the Northwest Arkansas Touchdown Club. "It’s different when you have, you know, a coach who’s not your long-term coach and, you know, you have to manage a season differently because of that and we’ve tried to do that. Certainly, I engage our coaches as much as I can to make sure they understand that we’re supporting them and engage the student-athletes that we’re going to have a program going forward. We’re going to be here and we’re going to support them. We’re not where we want to be. We’re not where we thought we would be. That goes without question."
The Hogs' 1-3 start has been a kick in the teeth for everybody in the Ozarks. And, yes, Smith has made mistakes and has seemed to be out there at times with some of the things he's said and done.
But making a change at this point doesn't make any sense. For one, who would Long put in charge?
You ride it out, do your homework on the head-coaching candidates who are going to be out there come December and hope this team can turn it around and get to a bowl game.
