My colleague at ESPN, Brett McMurphy, is reporting that Mississippi State will open the 2013 season against Oklahoma State on Aug. 31 at Houston's Reliant Stadium.

Reliant Stadium is creating an annual Labor Day weekend event, joining Atlanta's Georgia Dome and Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in hosting high-profile college football season-opening contests, McMurphy reports.

Other neutral site games already scheduled for the opening weekend next season are LSU vs. TCU in Arlington in the Cowboys Classic and Alabama vs. Virginia Tech in Atlanta in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.

It's a big step for Mississippi State's program to add a marquee nonconference game. The Bulldogs' nonconference schedule has been weak each of the past three seasons.
